Soul Designer aka Fabrice Lig is well-known for his release on Kms, but for us, we remember a lot of nice tracks on many labels such as Clone ("we still kill the old way"). Nowadays everybody plays boring 80's but Fabrice Lig still believe in soulful techno close to the original Detroit sound. "sweet harmony" is the right one : the perfect mix-up between atmospheric synth and a rough electro-funk like juan Atkins. The typical spleen of the motor city comes out along the LP : "detroit sound" is a sensitive old school tune (listen again to world2world on UR) and "sleep with a fat girl" goes driving techno. Fabrice Lig performs timeless techno with his own sensibility and it's hard to believe that's he's European and white ! One of the most interesting album of the year, not so far from "the other people place" (warp), it's as nice at home as on the dancefloor. Check it on F com website !
